by Anonymousreply 7June 5, 2019 7:44 AM

Excellent title, OP.

That bitch is going down. And not just on fat Donnie.

You gotta love how round Billy suddenly wants to deal with the house committees who have subpoenaed him. Nadler told him to pound sand - he is still holding the contempt hearing on round Billy next week.

I say lock that fat fucker up in rikers with lyin Paulie and see how fast he decides he wants to cooperate. But make him sweat for a few days while the Democrats kick around their options.

Fuck these traitors. With a rusty chainsaw.

Democrats worry Bernie Sanders could play spoiler again

Democrats are worried that if he doesn’t win the party’s presidential nomination himself, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will be a thorn in the side of the Democratic nominee for president — especially if it’s former Vice President Joe Biden.

The Democrats worry that Sanders won’t be a team player if he loses, and that he and his supporters will be particularly problematic if Biden or another rival seen as out of step with progressives comes out on top.

“I think Bernie will do everything in his power to elevate himself by pushing others down,” said one aide to a Democratic senator.

A senior aide to a second Democratic senator said concerns about Sanders dividing the party next year are widely held, even though everyone in the Senate Democratic Conference is holding their tongue for fear of making things even worse.

The aide said that when it comes to Sanders, there is a concern among Biden supporters that “this guy is going to play spoiler again.”

The worries follow a bitter 2016 primary fight between Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who won the nomination and then was defeated by President Trump in the Electoral College.

Some Democrats have blamed Sanders in part for that outcome, arguing he stayed in the primary against Clinton too long and that he did not do enough to bring his supporters on board in November.

I was watching commentary from a former intelligence guy last night...something he said I didn't think about...while the Democrats are taking their time building a case, they have to worry about when the DOJ will be done with their investigation of the investigation because it will no doubt have something in there that they can spin against the FBI & Democrats. So the House Democrats NEED to get the truth narrative out there well before that, or else Trump & Barr might regain the upper hand. They've really got to get a move on with these hearings.

OK John Dean next week but how about Christie soon after? He won't defy a subpoena and there's no privilege to worry about

Barr and Mnuchin have used that tactic before to stall investigations. "We're willing to negotiate." is bullshit. Just like Mnuchin made his excuses to delay the process over taxes. I'm glad Nadler is finally taking a hardline. That's what is needed. All the fake groundswell of cries for impeachment will quiet down a bit if the Democrats get a lot tougher and more defiant and "in your face" with the Republicans. There's no reason why they have to act like supplicants.

by Anonymousreply 13June 5, 2019 11:51 AM

Most people don't even understand what Impeachment is, which is why they aren't in favor of it even though they oppose Trump. So educating voters is critical. Hearings will help make that happen and yes, the investigative hearings they're having now, will lead to a formal Impeachment inquiry. I suspect the Democrats will have those hearings all next year, and the Senate's open hostility will help Democrats win some Senate Races. Not as many as we need, but quite a few.

by Anonymousreply 14June 5, 2019 12:29 PM

Another day, another thread. My prayer is that one day these threads will no longer be necessary and we can go back to a normal way of life. And the only threads about Trump will be about his various trials.

by Anonymousreply 15June 5, 2019 1:44 PM

Mueller retired. His investigation is over and he refuses to discuss it any further. Let it go or watch Trump get re-elected. Nothing is going to make Hillary your President.

With everything that has ever been run up the flagpole about Bernie Sanders being an unwitting/witting divisive asset for Russia/Putin, what are some bullet points we can list that don’t sound like tinfoil hat nonsense and are actually verifiable?

I cannot believe how many earnest Bernie Bros are still out there that I’ve run into and I’d like to offer more to the encounter than just shaking my head and “seriously?”
How can that turd even dare to stand with anybody involved in fighting during WW2 when he’s a fucking Nazi sympathizer???

Did you see the part of his interview with Piers Morgan when asked about not serving for bone spurs. He said he would have fought the Nazis, that Vietnam was not worth fighting and it is not like he was protesting or heading to Canada, and that he has more than made up for not serving during Vietnam for how much he has done for the armed services as president.

by Anonymousreply 34June 5, 2019 4:52 PM

I want to comment on the discussion that was about and included FCI in the last thread. It's a Washington truism that everyone knows everything but not everyone knows if it's true. John McCain once commented that he's never seen anything in an intelligence briefing that hasn't been in the paper. My point is there's no lack of information out there (which makes what Seth Abramson does so important), but it's the confirmation that's often most scarce and thus valuable.

by Anonymousreply 35June 5, 2019 4:56 PM

FCI also claimed that his source had heard the most damning information about Trump and how he would soon be gone - over a year ago.

NOW, he just reposts the same things we says here, mostly about the people fighting over Nancy.

He's not "confirming" anything whatsoever.
FCI also claimed that his source had heard the most damning information about Trump and how he would soon be gone - over a year ago.

Yeah, um, he never stated this. Not even once. Provide us with a quote if you’re so sure of yourself.

Your whole goal seems to be to try and discredit real sources on here. And you’re pathetically failing in that endeavor.

by Anonymousreply 38June 5, 2019 5:06 PM

These threads will keep going as the traitors and the Kkkrime kkklan will be prosecuted and I plan to follow every last humiliating day of court and testimony.

r34 Please tell me he did not say this. Please. I beg you. Please. No way. If Obama or Bill C had said anything remotely close...........fuck it. Off the charts in every way. OML.

r36 You seem to really have it out for me. I never said that. Prove it you POS. Who are you? Are you Aaron Schock? Going back months and months, you've continually tried to discredit me and lie about things I've said.

r38 Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 40June 5, 2019 5:25 PM

FCI, your insights are very much appreciated. Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 41June 5, 2019 5:28 PM

I love FCI!

As I have stated before, I would gladly use my oral skills to show you much appreciation.

by Anonymousreply 42June 5, 2019 5:33 PM

FCI ... NOT R40.....C'mon, you're smarter than that! You, (and some of the rest of us), keep taking his bait. Nobody is served by responding to him. For the sake of the rest of us who greatly appreciate your contribution and input, please ignore every one of his posts starting now! That goes for anyone else as well, (including me). This was my last.

Thanks.

r43 You're right. I appreciate you all and I find it funny how this thing keeps following me around and seems very bothered by me for reasons that I can't figure out. He's amusing in that respect.

I wlll continue to provide you all with what I can. It has never been much but trolls aren't going to stop me.

by Anonymousreply 45June 5, 2019 5:48 PM

Trolls- Stop fucking around with FCI!

I am so appreciative FCI for your tidbits thanks! What are u hearing about GOP threatening to overrule trumps veto on the mexico tarriff? Is it a stunt to make the GOP look like they arent in trumps pocket or is it the real deal? I dont trust turtle mcconnell whatsoever and this seems like something he would cook up to try give rethugs some cover as we near the impeachment hearings.

by Anonymousreply 46June 5, 2019 6:22 PM

My post at r35 is pro-FCI, just in case there's any misunderstanding. I didn't mean to provoke a troll response. I did mean to point out something that I know is valuable in FCI's participation here, especially when some posters tend to undervalue the confirmation of existing information and inflate the value of new information. It's only natural to do so (and I myself search as compulsively for Trump news as anyone), but I want to give my perspective about the importance of confirmation.

by Anonymousreply 49June 5, 2019 6:43 PM

r49 I took it as support. I didn't see anyone who did. Thanks for pointing out what you did.

r48 Once again, Nancy nails it.

by Anonymousreply 50June 5, 2019 6:53 PM

^^^ meant I didn't see anyone who didn't see it as support.

by Anonymousreply 51June 5, 2019 6:54 PM

FCI the next time you speak to your sources can you ask if Democrats are going to start putting out attack ads on McConnell? It would be wise to not make the 2020 elections all about Trump. Expose the repubs further. McConnell should go down in history as 1 of the biggest super villains in US political history

by Anonymousreply 52June 5, 2019 6:54 PM

r52 I already know that answer and it is yes. He will be played up as the villain he is. They plan on hitting rural markets hard as well. He is not doing well in MI, WI, IA, PA. They feel electorally, things are looking great. They want to go for a huge popular vote win as well.

by Anonymousreply 53June 5, 2019 6:57 PM

FCI said Trump was going to start doing things that harm people by Executive Order. I can totally see that today with the cancellation of the fetal tissue research for HIV and by canceling English instruction and legal aid for the migrant children held at the border.

by Anonymousreply 54June 5, 2019 7:08 PM

R54 FCI says a lot of things... I think FCI just likes the attention. When has one thing come true that tallies up with FCI’s tidbits”? It either hasn’t, or it was already known info. Send a “red alert text” to your Washington contacts about that FCI.

by Anonymousreply 55June 5, 2019 7:11 PM

Oh fuck off, FCI-attacker.

Anytime we get an "insider" or even "semi-sorta-insider" posting things some douchebag has to come along and fuck with it. I don't know FCI, I can't and don't keep up with the zillions of posts every day in these stupid fucking "let's hide all the political news in ONE thread only" chains. I do recall seeing FCI post in the past and it seems that he/she is just a typical DC worker bee. A useful thing to have at the DL since we get all of our information from the newspapers and television news.

I want the old DL back, where we had lots of threads on whatever we wanted, not this segregated ghetto thread.

by Anonymousreply 56June 5, 2019 7:31 PM

At what point do I say anything about segregating political news to another thread? Please tell me? My point, clearly made, is that FCI has never posted actual news despite posing as some sort of insider posting special info. The stuff about executive orders to harm people... Trump started that in his FIRST day in office, get a clue. So you learn to read, or kindly fuck off yourself.

by Anonymousreply 57June 5, 2019 7:35 PM

R34, he did not say anything that coherent. He said that he was “not a fan” of the war in Vietnam because Vietnam was “far away” and “no one had ever heard of Vietnam.” He wouldn’t fight because it wasn’t a FAMOUS country.

by Anonymousreply 66June 5, 2019 8:10 PM

I appreciate FCI and his insights. If something he has posted doesn't pan out, it's because everything with Trump is fluid. Trump changes what's left of his puny little mind from one minute to the next, so although the Dems focus hasn't changed, some of their strategy has changed.

r71 They only care about owning the libs.

Van Jones (or someone on MSNBC) had on a farmer named Jason who said he was absolutely not going to vote for Pres Bone Spurs next time but he had a real libertarian streak and wanted to do away with both parties. THIS is the problem. We are not a parlimentary system. What exactly are the options? Either way, what you would end up with are coalitions who would end up being exactly what we have now- center left and center right.

People like Jason will not give the Dems a true chance. They've made up their minds, have complete misconceptions about Dems, act like Dems have "forgotten" about people like him when every thing the Dems do would benefit people like him. All the Jasons in the world think is the Dems want welfare for brown people. They aren't listening.

No party will get anything done until we wrestle away money from the rich. Nothing will get better until 10% don't own 90% of the wealth. That is not sustainable and will not ever allow the economics of the avg person to improve. One party will never allow the rich to pay one fucking cent more. The other party has and will require them to. It amazes me how so many avg workers carry water for the rich, the poor picked on rich. Every time you see people saying, "The rich aren't evil. They worked hard for their money and we are treating them like they are the villains." Most of them aren't the villains but a good number are and they've caused this problem.

I wish these people would give the Dems a chance. Like a supermajority in Congress plus the Presidency. Give them 8 years. I bet so much systemic shit gets fixed. Conversely, give the GOP the same and you watch our economy fall off a cliff into something we will never recover from.

I’m neutral on the FCI troll but what I can’t stand is when people circle wagons with no real reason. You see this in public if some has a legitimate complaint to a retail outlet, for example, the other people in line get mad at the complainer.

I hope that’s not going on here.

If FCI is legit, then the criticism against him will fall on its own. It doesn’t need a choir of wagon-circling. I can’t stand that kind of hive thinking. This is not that kind of thread.

That being said, the FCI hater doesn’t need to go on and on about it. State your criticism and FCI’s merits will stand on their own or will match your criticism.

For the rest of you who are so quick to defend someone, make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons. Don’t be gullible.

r81 It is culturally built into the military that conservatives, despite facts, support them. They are a propaganda machine for conservatism. Blatantly so. r83 Thanks for the lecture. Though, you showed your hand with the "troll" comment. Neutral? Fuck right on off and guess what? Everyone here are grown ups and don't need your lecturing to tell them they can or can't say. Understand?

by Anonymousreply 84June 5, 2019 8:53 PM

How dare you raise a concern. That is not allowed in hive think.

by Anonymousreply 85June 5, 2019 8:56 PM

Since FCI has now added "Plans changed behind the scenes" to his repertoire, he's now using the same kinds of tactics as QAnon. "Hillary wasn't arrested? That's been moved back a little to focus on blah blah blah" is no different than "The Dems were primed to take down Trump but a few things behind the scenes have changed so it's been moved back a bit according to my good friend."

Comrade FCI reports just like a QAnon post. No news, just vague and hazy predictions that could change at any minute but will materialize later on.

The Russians want to divide us and an obvious tool being used is Komrade "President Bone Spurs" FCI himself.

by Anonymousreply 90June 5, 2019 9:08 PM

The petty fighting on these threads gets tiresome. FCI has posted interesting things. Stop attacking him.

For me, lately I've felt depressed about the state we're in. Depressed because everything I've learned about "cheaters never win" and "honesty is the best policy" etc have been completely upended as we watch as cheaters have taken over the government and are destroying our democracy.

The majority of the country does not want the repressive, greedy, hateful republican agenda. If they didn't cheat there would be a Democrat in the White House and there would have been since 2000 when Gore's win was stolen by unscrupulous repukes.

The majority does not want to see a lying, cheating, gross, rude, arrogant narcissistic asshole in the White House. It's too much. McConnell is another lying scumbag. To see members of this corrupt lying administration cavorting with the Queen is too much. It's a slap in the face of all that is dignified, respectful, honest, and fair.

That people still support that orange creep and his allies is mind-boggling. I guess racism, sexism, cheating and lying is just OK with them. And they're supposed to be Christians. I'm no Christian but I know that they haven't been struck dead by a vengeful god because there is no truth or justice in anything they believe, even religion. Only we can save ourselves and we better step up and investigate continuously until we vote the swamp dwellers out.

by Anonymousreply 91June 5, 2019 9:09 PM

My access is different than FCI's, but it does match with FCI's insight into the Speaker's office and their preparation for impeachment based on the people they interviewed and hired. That office looked to staff up like impeachment was imminent after the midterms. However, my what I know doesn't confirm or debunk FCI's assertion about the Democratic leadership's current strategy because, based only on the hiring information I know, leadership could have genuinely been waiting for Mueller's report and now find impeachment an untenable or unattractive position.

While I've stated I'm pro-FCI (though he *could* of course be FOS--any of us could be), I also have to say that another poster I've come to enjoy on these threads is the poster who asked his or her forensic accountant neighbor if she'd been following one of the Manafort trials. The neighbor replied that she'd been testifying in it! That must have ben 50 or so threads ago, but it's a gem.

R84, in the DataLounge vernacular, the word "troll" can also be used to denote a poster known to post about a specific topic. This is a non-malicious designation, and it's generally unrelated to Russian or internet troll accusations. We have Janet Jackson trolls, etc. In your case, IMO, it's the posts doubting FCI's credibility that have given you the FCI troll moniker. Maybe you already knew that. I do think you've made your argument. We'll see what happens, as Trump so often says.

Call me CCI (Current Congressional Insider).

My super-secret source/fuckbud is way up the DC Democratic food chain and he told me the other night while we were jacking off together over Aaron Schock videos (which have not been released yet!) that the next few weeks will decide where the Dems take this in the Fall.

Yes, my insider secret source assures me that the Dems want to rush forward with Impeachment to get it into the public's eyes but that they are also worried about how most likely the Senate will not convict, which will hurt the Dems 2020 and beyond.

So, there's a LOT of talk going on behind closed doors about exactly which path to take, while still maintaining a drip drip drip of damning information against Prez Bone Spurs von Fuckstick.

It may look like the Dems are pensive but they are really deciding the right move to make to get Cheetolini's jugular. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not happening.

And just because this is the same stuff as Seth Abramson posts every hour on the hour on Twitter does not mean I'm just copying him and pretending it's really scoop from my super secret insider sex hookup friend. It's all real! And I've been here since 1995!

And if something changes, something happened behind the scenes!

I rarely even post scoop and when I do, I always acknowledge it isn't groundbreaking. But, for those who appreciate it, I will continue. For those who don't, I don't really give a fuck. The attacks let me know I am doing something right. If you don't like it, ignore me. Really easy. The regulars on these threads know exactly what I have brought so I can only conclude the triggered ones are new OR-

The poster I blocked at 86 and a few others, are pissed off only because of a spat about a pop singer. They've gone mental due to that.

Hope you are enjoying your vacation FCI!

Is the DC poster with the accountant neighbors (who I believe also solved a murder) still around? I’ve been thinking about him as well R92. I’d love to hear an update even if it is just a still around check-in.

As for that complaining “ghetto” comment. Well in the beginning (or at least 97 when I first arrived) there really were separate threads. Gossip was one amongst many. Politics was another and Muriel (whom we didn’t call Muriel) really would and did move your post if you spammed the gossip thread with discussions about the plot of an Ellen episode. So I think you are misinformed about the old days.

So I posted a question two threads ago and haven’t received an answer I’d consider definitive; can there be separate impeachment “referrals” from the House to the Senate forcing the Senate to hold multiple impeachment trials? There were two federal Manafort trials; could we have an emoluments impeachment and export controls violation impeachment and racketeering impeachment etc?

by Anonymousreply 101June 5, 2019 10:09 PM
Isn't it time to stop listing all the previous threads? The originator of these threads was not the current OP, anyway.

You're free to skip over the posts you don't like. But I suspect you already know that and your complaint is well, for reasons that are obvious.

I also never claimed to be the original OP of these threads, I have however, opened the last 100 threads (just realized that looking back). If people have issues with it, I'm sure they'll voice their opinions.

by Anonymousreply 102June 5, 2019 10:10 PM
So I posted a question two threads ago and haven’t received an answer I’d consider definitive; can there be separate impeachment “referrals” from the House to the Senate forcing the Senate to hold multiple impeachment trials?

TPM: Neal Balks At Using New New York State Law To Get Trump Tax Returns '

But Bloomberg reports that Neal won’t ask the Empire State for Trump’s returns under the law, fearing that doing so could jeopardize a looming court battle with the Treasury Department over the President’s tax records. Neal has asked IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin to provide him with the returns, pursuant to a law that mandates the Treasury to “furnish” certain federal lawmakers with the returns of any filer upon request.

Mnuchin has refused every request, as well as a subpoena that Neal sent last month. That sets the stage Neal to file a lawsuit, which he has not yet done since Mnuchin announced on May 17 that he would not comply with the House’s subpoena.

A lawsuit — while potentially successful over the long term — is likely to take months, if not years to be resolved. As a result, House Democrats have looked to New York’s legislature for an assist.

But Neal’s comments to Bloomberg suggest that he has put the kibosh on that route.

“We don’t have jurisdiction over New York taxes,” Neal said, with Bloomberg reporting that the congressman’s concern speaks to the stated rationale for requesting the returns: examining whether the IRS is impartially auditing its boss, President Trump.

I think that most of Chris Christie's testimony as reported in the Mueller report was already public knowledge, because he talked about it either on ABC or in his book. I'm not sure how much he could or would add if he testified before Congress - his opinion was that Trump's campaign was too disorganized to actually collude with Russia.

It would be interesting to hear his thoughts about the New Hampshire primary - a Russian oligarch helped fund the dark money campaign against him - but I don't think any of that can be tied to Trump. Yet. And I'd love for someone to ask him if he thought Jared Kushner was involved in Bridgegate, but he has been very discreet on that subject.

by Anonymousreply 122June 5, 2019 10:47 PM

That's a good question, elder lez.

I don't really know but I would hazard a guess that impeachment works the same way as any criminal trial. Usually the prosecutor (house) lines up as many charges as possible to overwhelm the criminal and either get him to plead, turn over his conspirators or let him know what he's facing if he goes to trial.

Just a guess, like I said. There are others more intelligent than I who should know.

Remember, if you come for the mob boss, you best not miss or he will consolidate his power. And NONE of us wants that.

by Anonymousreply 123June 5, 2019 10:47 PM

It's possible that technically more than one impeachment trial could take place.

As a practical matter it is not possible. You get one shot at the king. Miss and it's all over, you don't get a second shot.

R119, I was thinking of Richard Neal, not Pelosi.

R120 must be high if they blocked me for being "tacitly pro-Trump." But I'm not going to get started about posters who think that criticism of a Democrat means a person supports Trump. I'll just repeat that Democrats need to lay down some standards on holding elected officials to the law (e.g. subpoenas).

by Anonymousreply 145June 6, 2019 1:53 AM

E.Warren is the real deal!

by Anonymousreply 146June 6, 2019 2:13 AM

R135 If Russian Hacking into our elections is not fully investigated and remedied,i.e. PAPER BALLOTS FOR ALL, the chances of Trump being re-elected are the same as they were in 2016 - 100% !!!

If by some miracle we are able to fix the problem.... well.... I'd love to say ZERO Percent, but I'll be realistic and say 40%, (or less).

by Anonymousreply 147June 6, 2019 2:13 AM

I mean what does it say when you will not act to protect voting integrity?

Pretty much says it all, right?

by Anonymousreply 148June 6, 2019 2:20 AM
I also have to say that another poster I've come to enjoy on these threads is the poster who asked his or her forensic accountant neighbor if she'd been following one of the Manafort trials. The neighbor replied that she'd been testifying in it! That must have ben 50 or so threads ago, but it's a gem.
Is the DC poster with the accountant neighbors (who I believe also solved a murder) still around? I’ve been thinking about him as well [R92]. I’d love to hear an update even if it is just a still around check-in.

Hi, Elder Lez and R92. I’m still here following this craziness with everyone else.

The forensic accountant from the Manafort trial still lives in my building as does Manafort’s own accountant (different floors lol). What’s hilarious is that Manafort’s personal accountant was the accountant for our condo board but was quickly relieved of that duty after everything came out.

The person trying to imply that posters like me and FCI are fakes obviously has an agenda that has very little to do with reality.

by Anonymousreply 150June 6, 2019 2:42 AM

Damn Warren brought it, I hope these people truly absorb her message and LIVE it — she emphasized it must be grass roots, that *we* set out tax laws, *we* get in their faces, *we* get to decide — even though they will NOT want to give up any of their wealth, power, prestige. I get the impression many in the audience are activists in their community, that’s encouraging. Too fucking bad!!!!!!

Once upon a time we had an upper class in power who understood that lifting up “the least of these” gave us all the kind of country we want to live in.

But I digress. To the dummies who don’t like certain posters, GTFOH. Anybody from anywhere from actually any belief system can post here. If you don’t like them, challenge their ideas, challenge their assertions. And if you still regard them with a skeptic eye, then shut the fuck Up because it’s incredibly annoying that you take up real estate in this thread. Is FCI legit? Who GIVES a fuck honey?!?! If you want to know if a writer is legit, go buy a magazine with real journalists in it. I’m not here to verify someone’s legitimacy — it’s a fucking anonymous board.
Warren/Buttigieg with Harris as SOS.

I'd love that but I'd have Harris as AG. Can you imagine Trump endlessly going on and on about Pocahontas and Alfred E. Newman until even his supporters are like, "WTF is wrong with him?!"

by Anonymousreply 153June 6, 2019 3:06 AM

R153, I think you’re idea is better, Harris would bring it, I guess I thought SOS because she has the poise and sophistication and toughness to properly represent us. Also, I feel like the prestige of SOS should be given to someone like her — she deserves that at this stage IMHO. But I agree with you, she would be incredible as an AG. Who do you see as SOS instead?

by Anonymousreply 154June 6, 2019 3:22 AM

R150 I think that pretty much seals it....she's going to block any impeachment attempts and will roll the dice that he loses in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 155June 6, 2019 3:49 AM

Thats not what she said....she basically said that impeachment wasnt enough...he needs to be in prison. She wants to make sure that even if he resigns that all his crap will follow him...and stick. Shes right...he cant be allowed to walk away unscathed.

by Anonymousreply 159June 6, 2019 4:13 AM

If impeachment were like sex, some of you would blow your wad in seconds.

Again, I will not take IMPEACH NOW seriously. It seems like Russian troll tactics because there is absolutely no nuance or thought in it, it is just do it now because we want it now.

by Anonymousreply 160June 6, 2019 4:25 AM

R160, it's not impeach now, it's begin the process of investigations before the House votes to approve an article of impeachment. The case has got to be rock solid but it's still tricky because when (from the link) "the procedure then moves to the Senate where a “trial” is held to determine if the president committed a crime. There is no set procedure for the trial. How it is conducted would be set by the Senate leadership."

With McConnell in charge we know what will happen. Block and obstruct. We're wise not to get it to the Senate too quickly if at all before 2020. The House should investigate thoroughly and expose even more wrong doing before they vote on an article of impeachment. Senator Pelosi is wise indeed.

We should also strongly focus on flipping the Senate in 2020. If Democrats have the House and Senate in 2020 and Orange Turd is re-elected, let the Senate impeachment trials begin.

NO FOUR MORE YEARS FOR SCUM TRUMP.

So, what's up with Hope Hicks? Two days ago she was turning over documents. Then yesterday the President told her and Donaldson (McGahn's assistant) to ignore Congress. Did she turn things over? Is she going to testify? I think the first one to defy Trump and testify will open the floodgates. I hope she's scared enough to comply.

by Anonymousreply 170June 6, 2019 6:09 AM

Aside from Britain and France laughing at him this week, and all 52 republican senators are upset about his tariffs, the obese toddler is doing great, R173 ;)

by Anonymousreply 175June 6, 2019 6:55 AM

The Dems should raise holy hell when McConnell refuses to convict Trump in the Senate after the Dems conviced the general public, through the very public impeachment investigation and hearings, that Donald Trump is a criminal who broke laws and tried to cover it up.

The Democratic Party should trust that the evidence is convincing enough for Trump to be seen as shameless criminal and the GOP being his accomplice. Using the message branding for the election campaign in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 176June 6, 2019 6:59 AM

R158 ""I don’t want to see him impeached, I want to see him in prison"

by Anonymousreply 179June 6, 2019 8:38 AM

I believe the real fight between the Dems and the Republicans is about who can establish its narrative first and better. Great, big, theatrical gestures and catchy buzz words create a more appealing narrative that can establish itself faster and better than a narrative based on common sense and reason.

The problem is that the first one appeals to the mouth breathing masses and the second to the more intellectual class. And we have to thank the Republicans for the general public being so easy and dumb since it's the Republicans who destroy public education.

by Anonymousreply 180June 6, 2019 9:18 AM

She demonstrates such conviction that she may not be open to compromise and yes we may think that's a dirty word, but you have to be able to play well with others, and She worries me in that regard. I think she is way more authentic than BErnie, but she will need to temper some of her resolve when it comes to the realpolitik.

by Anonymousreply 186June 6, 2019 11:31 AM

R185, Nadler isn't ready to begin Impeachment proceedings. And he is dithering around when it comes to going after Mnuchin, Barr, and McGahn. His staff are still trying to decide how to frame the hearings. They're all over the place. I think they just announced another investigation into something else.

The other thing Nadler won't publicly acknowledge is that when it happens, Pelosi will set up a Select Committee on Impeachment to conduct hearings. They will then deliver their findings to Judiciary, and the Judiciary will write Articles Of Impeachment and then vote on them as a committee. So Nadler's role in the impeachment process is secondary to whoever Nancy picks to chair the Select Committee.

by Anonymousreply 187June 6, 2019 11:37 AM
it's not impeach now, it's begin the process of investigations before the House votes to approve an article of impeachment.

The house is already investigating dozens of crimes by Trump, there is a house judiciary committee looking into everything basically.

by Anonymousreply 188June 6, 2019 11:41 AM

R187, here. I have to correct myself. With Nixon, it was the Senate who set up a select committee to investigate the Watergate Break in. It was the House Judiciary committee who initiated Impeachment hearings. So Pelosi will ask for a Resolution from the House to open Impeachment inquiry, then assign it to Judiciary. But the fact still remains that Nadler is dithering. . Right now she doesn't have the votes within her own caucus. As I understand it she has about 60 pro-impeachment Democrats. It's not that they are against impeachment, but that they are against losing in the Senate on something like this. People keep looking at Pelosi, but they need to be focusing on the fucking Senate.

by Anonymousreply 189June 6, 2019 11:43 AM

If Pelosi forms a House Select Committee and start investigations, HOW can they navigate around Barr blocking everything? Barr is going to do everything that it it takes to protect Dump , legal or not, just as he is doing now.

I think Trump may have a hard time funding the 2020 campaign. A lot of dark money flowed into 2016. NRA dropped $30M on Trump and other republicans. They don't have that kind of pocket change lying around now. The NRA allowance from the Russian homeland has dried up. It will seem very suspicious if they suddenly have a flush of cash on hand. They are under too much scrutiny right now for them to provide the cover for foreign $$$$ in 2020. Trump isn't going to spend any of his own money. Lots of journalist eyes will be watching where the money comes from. I'm hoping we will see lots of scrutiny even though SOTUS has basically allowed foreign and dark money to come into the campaigns by relaxing election laws.

by Anonymousreply 203June 6, 2019 2:48 PM

Some gems from the Faux interview with Laura (Master Race) Ingraham:

On Mueller:

“Let me tell you, he made such a fool out of himself ... because what people don’t report is the letter he had to do to straighten out his testimony because his testimony was wrong,” Trump told Ingraham.

On Pelosi:

“Nancy Pelosi, I call her Nervous Nancy, Nancy Pelosi doesn’t talk about it,” Trump said, referring to the joint statement. “Nancy Pelosi is a disaster, ok? She’s a disaster. Let her do what she wants, you know what? I think they’re in big trouble.”

On Impeachment:

“dirty, filthy and disgusting word,”

On tariffs:

“When you’re the piggy bank that everybody steals from and robs from, they deceive you like they’ve been doing from 25 years, tariffs are a beautiful thing, it’s a beautiful word if you know how to use them properly,” Trump told Fox News.

“Republicans should love what I’m doing.”

On Normandy:

"There was never a more important event than the event 75 years ago today, think of that? These were incredible, brave people who were just being blown up and you have the graves all other. These were people who knew they were going to die. It was, it was, horrendous," he said. "... This was a very, very horrific day, but it was also a very special day and it's an honor to be here."

by Anonymousreply 206June 6, 2019 3:12 PM

R203: Most of the money that funded Trump came from Russian oligarchs and a few other assorted sleazebags. They funneled money to the NRA and they made significant contributions to the Republican pacs and individual members of Congress. They will do more of the same in 2020. And the Adelson money, the Kochs, and the Mercers, et al will be there. They will definitely have what they need. Trump already has raised a significant amount for 2020.

by Anonymousreply 207June 6, 2019 3:20 PM

I think the way it works is once Hicks agrees to cooperate she has to cooperate. She can't decide to withhold some documents and share others. If she does, she will be breaking the law and could face jail time.

by Anonymousreply 208June 6, 2019 3:26 PM

R208 I like that you think shes concerned about that.

Just like the rest of them are concerned about breaking the law and facing jail time by not cooperating with a subpoena?

I watched Weld on Lawrence O'Donnell's show last night and it struck me. He said opening an impeachment hearing and voting for it could take between a year and 18 months...so if the Democrats want to do it they better get going or else they'll probably wait for the election. I hope they start this shit by July at the latest.

so, I'm not bashing the Democrats or saying their plan is flawed and I understand things are delayed because the executive branch is fighting every bit that they can BUT Weld obviously knows what he's talking about. I know the majority of Democratic voters will not be happy if Trump is not impeached before the election. People will be annoyed if the House is simply teasing impeachment and then just says "oh it's too close to the election". There is no guarantee we will win in 2020. by Anonymousreply 235June 6, 2019 6:50 PM

Here is how I think 2020/2021 plays out...I don't think Trump wins re-election. I think we'll eventually have impeachment hearings and the public will finally recognize the Trump family for the criminal cabal that it is. I think once it is clear that he is losing (probably late summer 2020), you'll see the children start enjoying extended vacations abroad - probably on some middle eastern private island where they begin setting up a home base. At some point, near the inauguration, Trump and family will make a good bye tour internationally. One of them fall "seriously" ill and will be unable to be transported back to the US. The family will need to be near the bedside of "seriously" ill family member and will not be able to attend the inauguration of the new president. Trump's presidency will expire while he is out of the country and out of reach of indictments for a non-president. He and his family will live out their lives outside the jurisdiction of the US government.

by Anonymousreply 236June 6, 2019 7:08 PM

I think Trump will kill one of his own kids and blame it on Nancy riling up Liberal terrorists and declare "Marcia Law!" and try to become dictator for life.

That man has no shame and no scruples. A real sociopath.

From CNN's Jim Acosta on Twitter. This shows the contrast between Trump, who is taking Normandy as an Airing of Grievances, and Pelosi, who looks great.

Pelosi declining to criticize Trump while at Normandy today: “I don’t talk about the president while I’m out of the country. That’s my principle.”
ABC: On voicemail, Trump's lawyer asks Michael Flynn's attorney for a 'heads up'

Last week, prosecutors filed a complete transcript of the voicemail after they were ordered by Sullivan. Dowd and others have complained that the full transcript, which shows him telling Flynn’s attorneys not to give up “confidential information,” demonstrates that Mueller selectively edited the voicemail as it appears in his 448-page report.

Dowd called Mueller’s report a “fraud” and accused him of making “a false statement” in his report by editing down the transcript of the voicemail in a way that altered the “tenor and contents” of his contacts with Kelner.

We need to make our lists for 2020. Gym Jordan, Meadows, and King from Iowa in the House, are on mine along with McConnell, Graham, Cornyn, and Collins. We have to protect the Democratic Senators from Red States. Doug Jones is coming up in Alabama. Now if we're lucky, Roy Moore the Pedo will be his opponent again. Roy is running and Trump is really pissed off at him.

While we are preoccupied with Trump, the Republican strategists are working hard to see which members of the House and the Senate are vulnerable. They are going to have very aggressive strategy. We also have to look at the state legislatures. They do the redistricting. Redistricting is an issue in 2020. For example, I was dancing on the ceiling when I hear that Scott Walker lost in Wisconsin. But the Wisconsin state legislature is Republican and they are making life hell for the Democratic governor. De Santis in Florida is another one. He stole that election. There's evidence N.C. Florida and other states' elections are tainted. So Support Eric Holder and fight voter fraud.

There is so much money to be made off these rubes. Anger sells and I don't fault the likes of her from exploiting that. Like Coulter, who writes horrible things about liberals, yet goes on cocaine fueled binges with her liberal friends all the time( I've often wondered if Coulter's schtick isn't completely fabricated).

No different than evangelicals, who give tons of money to there "preachers" who live extravagant lifestyles (as Jesus would want, I presume) yet they see nothing wrong with it and keep giving.

Lots of money made off of the angry conservatives.
Mueller failed in his mission to drive Trump out of office.

That was neither his task nor his mission.

by Anonymousreply 353June 7, 2019 4:50 PM

Here's something to think about. It actually makes me f eel better. The International Intelligence community has shared a lot of what they know about Trump with their leaders. So the British, the French, the Germans, Canadians, etc.etc.etc all know even more than we do. And you also can be assured that Macron, May, Corbyn, Merkel and a host of others, have all read the Mueller report and could probably fill in a lot of the redactions. So my guess is that while everyone behaved correctly and politely in Europe for all the memorials, etc of Normandy, they find Trump repulsive, they probably acknowledge that he committed treason against his own country, and they look at him as a 3rd rate pawn of Putin's. I'm certain he felt the chilly attitudes from them. I saw a photo of him and Macron walking together and there was no love, no cordiality in the expressions. He met with Nigel Farage while he was there. Farage and Bannon have been wreaking havoc all over Europe. Look at Trump in all the pictures with his pout on His chin jutting out and that nasty sneering expression. he's a pariah among world leaders.

by Anonymousreply 354June 7, 2019 4:52 PM

Did you just fall off a turnip truck, R353? Of course driving Trump out of office was the whole point and purpose of the Mueller probe.

by Anonymousreply 355June 7, 2019 4:54 PM

Will also add that as far as staff goes Trump brought the dregs with him. And that says a lot considering how awful most of his appointees are. Huckabee, Conway, Stephen Miller, John Bolton, Mnuchin, not even Mike Pompeo, his chief ass licker would join him. And how do you think the rest of the world leaders feel about hi giving weapons technology to the Saudis?

As a SC voter, am fine with the LG posts. There's a 2020 Senate race, and LG's political behavior, along with the cartoonish depictions may serve as part of voter 'information'.. It's messaging. LG is not good for democracy, justice, and the environment. Exclusive closeted gay rights is not a recognized, economically and politically entitled category.

Not Mueller-related, but just more of Trump's abuse of power. Prompted by a whistle blower inside the Koch organization, the IRS opened a criminal investigation of income tax evasion by Koch brother Bill Koch in 2016. After Trump took office, with the IRS under control of Steve Mnuchin, the investigation was suddenly dropped. Bill Koch was the only Koch brother to support Trump in the 2016 election.

by Anonymousreply 365June 7, 2019 6:21 PM

R360 Many Republicans don't like Graham, including a sizeable portion of very conservative evangelicals. Like Cruz in Texas, he is not personally likeable by many. The main challenger to LG will be Jamie Harrison. He's African-American and a former Chair of the SC Democratic Party. He's been an officer with the national DNC. He's been an aide to Congressman James Clyburn. Harrison has never held elected office, and has been an established D.C. lobbyist. Harrison will garner the Democratic black.vote, and a minority of the white vote that are Democrats and those independents turned-off by Trump and Graham's sychophant antics. Republicans hold a majority in the state, and Graham has very deep campaign finance cash from power donors and special interests. Harrison's potential is unclear. However, he may not exhibit the charisma and popularism Beto displayed. But, if Harrison can garner the Stacey Abrams or Andrew Gillum type enthusiasm, he can make it more competitive than one may think.

I have dropped a couple friends and several family members because of their continued support of Trump. What's so funny is how persecuted they all act now about it. One now-former friend has taken to regularly sending me messages on Facebook saying how intolerant I am and how she never knew "how much of a dick you truly were." My sister left off a Trump-supporting cousin from her wedding invites and blocked her from all social media and the cousin is making a huge fuss about it and desperately trying to get an invitation. It's so funny how these precious little snowflakes cannot handle the consequences of their undying support of dear leader.

I'm already assuming that most of them will try to pretend that none of this happened when he is no longer in office. Good luck with that.

Speaking of Faux (won't link):

“Nervous Nancy Pelosi is a disgrace to herself and her family for having made such a disgusting statement, especially since I was with foreign leaders overseas. There is no evidence for such a thing to have been said,” Trump tweeted Friday.:

“Nervous Nancy & Dems are getting Zero work done in Congress and have no intention of doing anything other than going on a fishing expedition to see if they can find anything on me — both illegal & unprecedented in U.S. history,” he continued. “There was no Collusion — Investigate the Investigators! Go to work on Drug Price Reductions & Infrastructure!”

“I think she’s a disgrace. I actually don’t think she’s a talented person. I’ve tried to be nice to her because I would have liked to have gotten some deals done,” Trump said. “She’s incapable of doing deals, she’s a nasty, vindictive, horrible person, the Mueller report came out, it was a disaster for them.”

When asked about Pelosi’s statement, her spokeswoman, Ashley Etienne, said the speaker had a “productive meeting about the state of play with [Special Counsel Robert] Mueller report. They agreed to keep all options on the table and continue to move forward with an aggressive hearing and legislative strategy, as early as next week, to address the president’s corruption and abuses of power uncovered in the report.”

Offer barbecues and speeches by paunchy, grizzled decoys in trucker hats in which reality is delivered to the rural masses. No identity politics, no 'healthfood harangues', have the presenters act, look and sound like them, but sweet-tongued and persuasive enough to stand a chance of converting/curing the Deplorables by explaining to them how they're on their way to more economic anxiety.

by Anonymousreply 380June 7, 2019 7:07 PM

There are a lot of rural people who are open to Democratic policies. As many of you have noted, they often don't get a lot of news. The irony of his voters are, they are economically liberal but socially conservative. Once enough of them start realizing every single thing the GOP does has hurt them, and how liberal economic policies actually would make their lives vastly better, I think a sea change will happen unlike anything we've seen in our lifetimes. I'm happy we have so many candidates because they are all out there giving our policies it is going to start to sink in for enough. The media will never say this race is anything other than close and keep talking about that poll where a majority *thinks* he will be re-elected as if that matters. But that recent TX poll showing 6 or so Dems within 1 to 4 points of him, with Biden beating him by 4, should be alarming. Beto really put into place an infrastructure and enthusiasm for Dems, TX is in play. If TX is in play, AZ and GA are in play.

I saw the GOP thinks they can flip some blue states like NM and NV and CO but where are they getting that from? What data has shown those states are moving anywhere towards the GOP?

by Anonymousreply 381June 7, 2019 7:08 PM

Did you see the woman in Michigan who was interviewed after the Justin Amash town hall? "I get all my news from conservative outlets and I've never heard of the Mueller report." Well, at least she admitted it.

by Anonymousreply 382June 7, 2019 7:10 PM

I'm from the midwest and still spend a lot of time in red country. For rural voters it all boils down to two things: abortion and guns. They are afraid that democrats are going to murder their "babies" and take away their guns. Everything else is noise. They don't understand trade or economic policies. They believe democrats are big city, educated folks who want to murder babies and take away their guns.

by Anonymousreply 383June 7, 2019 7:14 PM

And...they are afraid of black and brown folks - except for those that play on their state's college football team.

by Anonymousreply 384June 7, 2019 7:17 PM
They believe democrats are big city, educated folks who want to murder babies and take away their guns.

Well, they're half right.

by Anonymousreply 385June 7, 2019 7:18 PM

They think Democrats don't own guns. They're so wrong. Plenty do. Just as plenty conservatives don't.

Many are bitter they've stayed in their small, rural towns wondering why they don't have jobs. It is a sad situation and I wish we didn't allow 90% of our money to flow to the top 10%. The GOP are to blame for 90% + for that. Many "liberals" or moderates moved to towns and cities where there were jobs to be had. So they are vilified for taking matters into their own hands? It seems to me the narrative of the conservative "pull yourself up by your bootstraps, I don't need any help" actually applies to liberals and moderates.

by Anonymousreply 386June 7, 2019 7:25 PM

That’s not true in my experience. Those issues go right out the window when economic issues arise.

by Anonymousreply 387June 7, 2019 7:25 PM

We'll see with the farmers and tariffs. They may not vote for Trump but they will vote republican down ticket with a libertarian choice for president. No liberal democrats.

by Anonymousreply 388June 7, 2019 7:31 PM

Deplorables say they agree with the GOP on economic issues yet when you ask them issue by issue, they usually fall in line with liberals on economics. I think they are finally waking up (fingers crossed) to the tax cutting scam.

Trump is losing his ability to speak correctly. When he said Markle was nasty I knew he meant that he didn't know Markle had said nasty things about him. everyone blew that way out of proportion. Now he is saying Mars is a part of the moon......𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒃𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒔 (𝒐𝒇 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕), 𝑫𝒆𝒇𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆! but I think he means that we are still working on doing things with the moon, not that the moon is part of Mars. Again being blown out of proportion. If we don't stop we are going to be as bad as the right. We need to pick our fights and tearing apart his misstatements doesn't help. He is doing much bigger things that do need to be brought to light instead of the way he speaks.

by Anonymousreply 392June 7, 2019 9:47 PM

r392 Yes, he does so much we need to focus on the truly bad things not whether he said Markle was nasty which he clearly didn't mean the way it was made out to be. That said, I don't think he knows anything about anything anymore. His sentences are so mangled he does seem to be incapable of a cogent thought. Something is medically wrong with him. We already know he is mental.

by Anonymousreply 393June 7, 2019 9:51 PM

but r392, it speaks to the fact he is not mentally fit to hold the office. Remember the 25th amendment? Sounds like you are advising we ignore his obvious dementia.

by Anonymousreply 394June 7, 2019 9:53 PM

R392= concern trolling at it's finest. "If we don't stop criticizing Trump's tweets, we're going to be as bad as Trump, whose policies are actually killing children." Nonsense. Trump's tweets highlight his deteriorating mental state, which produces his irrational policies.

by Anonymousreply 396June 7, 2019 10:04 PM

If it was discussed that he was deteriorating it would be one thing but they are taking his words out of context and talking about that instead.

by Anonymousreply 426June 8, 2019 3:03 AM

As much as we laud these threads for providing a ‘real-time’ documentation of history as it occurs, I think it’s equally valuable as a real-time example of trolling and Russian attempts to stifle or divert discussion. The tactics are truly becoming so embarrassingly obvious. ‘Mueller reported. There’s no need to continue these threads.’ ‘Why do we need to keep posting thread titles?’ ‘Mueller is worthless.’ ‘Pelosi is ineffective.’ And so on. It’s going to be fun to call out the trolls in 2020 when Kamala has a Pizzagate or Mayor Pete has hacked nudes. And the GOP expects a scandal that will turn the tide and EVERY PERSON in America says ‘You didn’t care about Trump for the past 4 enabling years, so why should we care about this?’ And meets the manufactured scandal with a collective shrug.

This is a huge scandal the media, owned by these very same corps, will not report to the extent they should.

It is so telling how some voters will say how awful, terrible, alarming Pres Bone Spurs is yet say they may vote for him because the economy is doing fine.

We've lost our way as a country. This man has done so many despicable things even standing back as we were attacked by a hostile country over our election yet, eh, as long as the economy is ok, so what, who cares.

What happened??????

by Anonymousreply 452June 8, 2019 5:00 PM

R451, you're overlooking people's debt levels. When you live paycheck to paycheck, everything becomes a calculus... paying for food vs. utility bills, student loan debt vs. local taxes, etc... When the calculus becomes, I can vote for bland candidate X who is going to raise taxes, which is yet another debt, or I can vote for stinky Trump who won't raise my taxes... what does the debt calculus add up to?

At this point, Trump is a known entity. There's no reason to expect a second term would be different than the first term. So people can plug their own experiences into the calculus.... am I doing better under Trump than I was four years ago or not? If you're a farmer or a manufacturer hit by tariffs, probably worse. If you were unemployed four years ago but now you've got a job, probably better. It all goes into the debt calculus.

by Anonymousreply 453June 8, 2019 5:26 PM

And yet those stupid farmers have stated they will vote for this traitor even though they are bleeding money and at risk of losing their farms because "guns, babies and jeebus".

Some people are too goddamned dumb to live

by Anonymousreply 454June 8, 2019 5:31 PM

most Trump voters will still vote for him. I think he'll lose a few thousand here and there but a lot of them believe in the repub cause and will think they must sacrifice themselves and that eventually things will work out rather than just vote for Democrat.

IMO the biggest difference in 2020 will be if more people who stayed home in 2016 come out to vote. We did see a huge increase in the 2018 midterms but unfortunately it wasn't enough in key states to hold and win more Senate seats. Liberals notoriously don't show up for midterms so I was happy we got the House. I expect a lot more typically apolitical liberals to come out in 2020 and that could be difference

by Anonymousreply 455June 8, 2019 5:39 PM

The Senate. The Democrats need to concentrate on the Senate and keeping the House majority. Even if Trump does get re-elected, if the Democrats have the majority in both branches, he's a goner.

by Anonymousreply 456June 8, 2019 5:52 PM

The Deplorables will say one thing, but do another. They say they still support Trump, but they know they are better off wi th a socialist Liberal than someone who played them. They will stay at home, but never admit that they a) were wrong to trust Trump and b) the no longer support him (voting, buying his merchandise, show up at his rallies, punch a liberal, etc.).

by Anonymousreply 457June 8, 2019 6:00 PM

Also, death. 4 years is a long time for old Republicans to die off. And young liberals to become eligible to vote. Concentrate on motivating the youth vote! Only one party is trying to do anything about student debt, gun control, climate change, etc...

by Anonymousreply 458June 8, 2019 6:02 PM

how many deplorables will have likely died between 2016 and 2020? or 2018 and 2020? and compared to liberals?

by Anonymousreply 459June 8, 2019 6:04 PM

According to the "debt calculus" people ought to running away from Trump in droves. The tariffs are something we will pay for. The trade wars are something we will pay for. The average person will continue to pay higher taxes over the next three years. Corporations are continuing to ship jobs overseas and soybeans...the ones that were planted...are rotting in the fields while our farmers are going bankrupt. In fact there are tens of thousands of acres of arable farmland underwater right now in the United States and the farmers have missed their growing season...as of more than six weeks ago. So do not be surprised when food prices go sky high. Climate change will begin to assert itself with food shortages in the very near future. Also a virus in China has affected pork. THey a re killing diseased pigs all over Southeast Asia where the disease is spreading, and if you think we don't get pork from them, or that these viruses do not spread you're delusional.

by Anonymousreply 460June 8, 2019 6:09 PM

r453 That argument doesn't hold up. People actually are paying more in taxes due to the tax cut for the rich (we are again subsidizing the rich) , the farmers are getting crushed, manufacturers are getting crushed and we are paying more for items as a result. It comes out to the largest tax hike in history.

Yes, he is a known quantity and he has shown to be stunningly incompetent and dangerous for the economy.

by Anonymousreply 466June 8, 2019 7:06 PM

R461, I think you're looking at the tax hike from a global perspective. The debt calculus is all personal. Is my paycheck more under Trump or less? If candidate X is elected, what impact will that have on my paycheck? If my taxes go up, will I lose my house?

That's what paycheck to paycheck is all about - tightrope walking. How many government workers couldn't afford food after losing a couple of paychecks? Now imagine if their taxes went up substantially - how do they pay for food then? That's the debt calculus.

is there a reason why Democrats and liberals didn't pay attention or make federal judge picks a priority over the last 20 years? I'm not talking about McConnell blocking Obama's picks. I mean the Democrats and liberals making it a priority in campaigns telling their base "hey we have to win to get judges to help progress in this country".

In 2016 1 of the appeals Trump had with evangelicals was court picks. I didn't hear that kind of fervor among Democrats and liberals.

His policies are making things worse, not better. Conservatives will never want to fix the border situation. They use it to push out votes. That should be a Dem talking points. Dems need talking points.

by Anonymousreply 478June 8, 2019 8:32 PM

message discipline would really come in handy sometimes. Constantly remind people that the Trump Tariffs are Trump Taxes. And now, constantly remind people that Trump has folded in the face of Mexico and the Republican Senate. Make him look like the loser he is, and then repeat, repeat, repeat. over and over and over again. all week. All month if needed.

by Anonymousreply 479June 8, 2019 8:54 PM

r479 I would not give the GOP senate any credit. They would have folded in the end, not him. He folded because he was getting his ass handed to him by his constituents. He fucked up again. He starts fires and "puts them out" in quotes for a reason because he really doesn't put them out. The fire is still there because now no one trusts him. He is unstable. How could any voter want someone who has consistently caused uncertainty and doesn't think anything through before doing it? If ANY president before him acted this way, they'd be headed for a 50 state electoral slaughter.

They have shown that Trump-Ingraham clip numerous times now and called her out for saying the report that Trump held up the D Day ceremony for an interview with her as "fake news" as it's true. They also showed how absurd Hannity was for feigning a meltdown over Pelosi saying behind closed doors that she wants Trump in jail by showing the Trump rallies in which the "Lock her up" chants were going

I think the next move by Fox/Trump/GOP is to try and investigate Pelosi somehow as a way to discredit her. Don't be surprised if you start reading and hearing hit pieces on her. Fox has already started in with their "SF is a dump and Pelosi does nothing for her district " narratives

Really? I think Trump would win in a WALTZ over those two! How is the fresh-faced Millennial left so assured that Trump won't make mincemeat of this New England school marm (and two-time Reagan and George H.W. Bush voter!) and Kamala Harris who has yet to de-shrill her awful speaking voice and who CANNOT answer a question without giving a term paper length, meandering rant? It's as if she hasn't thought about the top 100 questions she'll be asked on the trail and prepared SIMPLE TO DIGEST answers for them!!

Neither Warren, nor Harris will top the ticket, but both stand a great chance for Veep.

Why isn't Jay Inslee, who is a very compelling candidate focused on the Climate Change + Economy doing better? by Anonymousreply 498June 9, 2019 3:06 AM

I favor Jay Inslee. I agree he is compelling, at least to me, who has lived under his governorship, and knew of him when he was a Congressman. I feel America has lost its collective mind or are animals chasing corporate media's laser pointer red dots. A candidate highly desired by 2% of the population won't get much traction, his signal is drowned out by the noise of the novelty.

The Democratic Party can do a lot better than identity politics; I'm certain a larger population of the American electorate begs for sanity, a platform that meets their needs, competence and national pride.

by Anonymousreply 499June 9, 2019 3:09 AM

r499 It has nothing to do with identity politics- our top leaders in the polls are white males!

The media is determining who gets coverage and who doesn't. They are telling us who matters and who doesn't.

None of the other candidates will gain traction because the media is determining who is important and who isn't.

by Anonymousreply 501June 9, 2019 5:58 AM

Here’s my response to a question on Quara about Trump . I mention it, because I just heard a comedian on a news show repeat the theme without attribution.

[Italic] I would not volunteer an answer unasked, but you did ask. President Trump serves as an example of all of the seven deadly sins. That’s an outstanding achievement because most people aren’t masters of all seven.

Pride, as in his inability to acknowledge ever being wrong. Recently he blamed his staff and claimed that he “overruled his staff”, which was an obvious lie. Catholics in particular should be appalled at his hubris. (I am unfamiliar with other religions but I assume that most are similarly appalled.)

Greed, his reason for living.

Lust, which should require no explanation.

Gluttony, with his obsession with junk food and being the first or second fattest President, ever.

Sloth, in being too lazy to listen to his daily briefings. (That is his job, after all.) He also rides a golf cart when other world leaders walk. And he flew to Europe but was too lazy to go to the cemetery to honor the WWI dead, the entire point of his trip (other than meeting with Putin, which he did.)

Envy, as exemplified by his ridiculous declaration that his inauguration crowd was bigger than Obama’s; and his determination to destroy Obama’s accomplishments and legacy.

And wrath, as he is famous for screaming at his staff and the media.

The seven deadly sins are symbolic about the character of a man or woman. This man is a serial liar, and I hate liars. They can’t ever be trusted and everyone who interacts with Trump knows that by now. Trump has no character. He is an abomination. [/Italic]

Barr's law firm has significant Russian clients. Vector and Alfa Bank among them. Barr will probably be handsomely paid for his efforts, and so will his family. The way it probably works is that his Russian clients pay the law firm for their services, then they rehire him at some inflated salary to show up once a month at some partners' meeting. He is philosophically compatible with Trump because he, along with at least two of the Supreme Court Justices, believe in the Unitary Executive, which is a pretentious way of intellectualizing an authoritarian dictator, and greatly expanding the powers of the Executive branch, usually at the expense of the Legislative branch. It's unconstitutional on its face.

by Anonymousreply 508June 9, 2019 2:50 PM

Michael Wolff writes in his new book that Barr took the job because he saw a large payday in its aftermath.

On the podcast Skullduggery, Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman come for Wolff on this claim. Klaidman says it doesn’t make sense that Barr, a corporate lawyer worth 10s of millions, would make this decision. Wolff replies that only a journalist could make the claim that a money hungry corporate lawyer isn’t interested in more millions.

by Anonymousreply 509June 9, 2019 2:58 PM

r509 Greed has no bounds. Those who have billions want trillions. It is power. Everyone wants more. Those journalists are dumb asf.

by Anonymousreply 510June 9, 2019 3:01 PM

R509, it may be that Barr was pressured by his firm to go back into the political arena, and he must have extracted some huge payback for it. Maybe not for himself, but for his kids. And honestly, he is tasked with saving the Presidency and protecting the "Republican" Party. So IMO as a lawyer, I'm sure he & his law firm would assess a dollar amount to what that would be worth. Think about it it this context: Putin gained a country with a very minimal investment and no bloodshed, when he got Trump.

by Anonymousreply 511June 9, 2019 3:06 PM

Forgive this stupid question, but has the UNREDACTED Mueller Report been read by Congress?

Will it ever be made public?

What is actually in there?!

Clearly, Barr did not read the unredacted version or the redacted version for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 512June 9, 2019 3:11 PM

Nancy has access to the unredacted report because of her top security clearance. But she claims she "doesn't want to read it" because she feels all members of Congress ought to see the report. Now if you believe that, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. IMO, she would be derelict in her duties as Speaker if she had not read the unredacted report. After all, the Speaker of the House is Constitutionally mandated in line of succession after the Vice President. ( I bet the possibility of Nancy becoming President is a great incentive to a lot of the Republican members of Congress. )

by Anonymousreply 513June 9, 2019 3:18 PM

r512 Barr read what he wanted to read. It could have said- "Arrest this Russian agent now. He is a threat to our nation. He is a criminal. Danger Danger" and he would have said the report was a danger to the nation. Anymore questions? No. Ok. Biiiiiiiieeeeee.

by Anonymousreply 519June 9, 2019 5:49 PM

I don't venture much into a lot of threads on DL. When I have, it is shocking (why I should be use to it) to see the amount of troll posts. The Beto/Pete thread was wall to wall trolls. There is an element of the population, and it seems more so in the gay community, of contrarianism. But that doesn't explain some of the very specific troll language and tactics I see here. Do they come here to hone their skills?

by Anonymousreply 520June 9, 2019 6:23 PM

We are getting here some very obvious Russian specific troll language and division tactics.

They are still at it and pressure needs to be put on the GOP from all the conservatives who understand the threat and do not support him. Unbelievable, sustained pressure by them would move the needle on this. They need to go for the jugular. They need to go after the entire party and specific GOP lawmakers (lawbreakers) with ferocity. There are so many influential conservatives who oppose him openly and many who do privately who could mount an incredible campaign against them. I don't understand why they haven't.

Part of me thinks they don't do this because doing so would possibly bring down the entire GOP. They want the Dems to do it but that is just seen as partisan politics to many. If they go for a brutal campaign against the GOP, leave him out of it, against the GOP, that is the only way I see change happening more quickly.

by Anonymousreply 521June 9, 2019 6:35 PM
Nancy has access to the unredacted report because of her top security clearance.

Liar. There is no access for anyone in Congress to the fully unredacted report. The leadership has been offered the opportunity to go to the Justice Deparment, read a slightly less redacted version, take no notes, have no staff there. This is just another Justice Deparment stalling tactic. It will be part of their very own obstruction charges.

by Anonymousreply 523June 9, 2019 6:44 PM

Trolling is amping up. Something must be coming. And be vigilant! Their goal is obviously to divide and disrupt.

That includes the inevitable troll that enters at the start of these threads to bitch that they're still going, falsely accuses OP of whatever behavior, and is himself, a troll who has posted homophobic and racist comments.

by Anonymousreply 524June 9, 2019 7:13 PM

r524 How does that troll even think that will work after 207 attempts? LOL

Often I think they have gone silent only to venture into other threads and it is bonkers with all types of trolls.

They aren't clever nor are they using tactics that don't scream, "I'm a troll!" but yet they keep going at it. They love having convos with themselves to try to make us think some of us have had our minds changed over something they've said but the original thing they said was so obviously trollish it never works because no one would fall for such trollish arguments.

by Anonymousreply 525June 9, 2019 7:29 PM

Barr is very bad news. Congress must pursue him with subpoenas, charges/court filings, no confidence votes, and Impeachment efforts.

Barr has been rendered czar authority by Trump over all Intel. This is dangerous. It is unwarranted vindictiveness. There can't be confidence this information won't fall into foreign hands. Lives of intelligence agents and co-ops could be subject to risk.

Mitch McConnell is preventing new resources being devoted to protecting U.S. elections. It appears McConnell and company want the external interference, including help for McConnell to be re-elected.

by Anonymousreply 526June 9, 2019 7:34 PM

R525 what is even more pathetic about that troll is that it's not even getting rubles for its effort.

by Anonymousreply 527June 9, 2019 7:39 PM

I can add that there are trolls posting all over DataLounge in threads related to foreign and domestic affairs. Take for instance the Huawei thread, where many posters take anti-liberal democracy, pro-China/Russia positions while typing in nonnative English.

Oh, the volunteer trolls are the absolute bottom of the barrel of all trolls. They do this in their free time.

At least the one’s who get paid have an excuse. Even they look down on the volunteer trolls.

I've told Boris & friends to go to the Kellyanne's Pussy threads for their safe space to post, provided they stay away from other threads. All they do is FF it. They really are miserable characters.

by Anonymousreply 530June 9, 2019 7:44 PM

I think the tranny-killer is def a volunteer troll. You can tell when it’s personal.

I think the poster might be behind the rash of tranny killings lately.

Call it a hunch.

It also makes me laugh when the troll(s) try desperately to FF this thread. It's funny how they screech that there's nothing to see and yet they are very bothered by this thread.

I also think it's obvious that the troll mentioned at R524 is probably furiously hitting FF on the OP from various devices.

by Anonymousreply 534June 9, 2019 7:52 PM

The trolls think they will knock us off our game but all they do is provide us opportunities to get out more information on the criminal shit going on. Plus, they give us a heads up about their strategy and that big news is about to break.

All these Russian trolls are good for is to open their mouths and go down balls deep on us. Actually, Russians don't even do sex right.

by Anonymousreply 535June 9, 2019 8:00 PM

Just an interjection here. A president can only pardon PEOPLE. Not corporations. I want every Democratic candidate to say they will go after Trump's business after he is out of office.

by Anonymousreply 536June 9, 2019 8:58 PM

R536, the Supreme Court declared that corporations are people. I wouldn't put anything past Trump.

by Anonymousreply 537June 9, 2019 9:38 PM

r537 Interesting. Is there any way we could find a way that would be so egregious to the country the SC would have to overturn their own CUnited ruling?

Conservatives have done so much damage to this country and to this world. They always blather on about being for a strong military (who the fuck isn't?), the Constitution (again, who the fuck isn't?), small govt (what does that even mean? unbreathable air? Undrinkable water? Old folks living with their families instead of on their own thanks to SS and Medicare?), lower taxes( until what point? we can't pay for roads? They're zero?) and other platitudes. Conservatives, way more than liberals, love platitudes. It gets them wet. When someone explains why they are conservatives, you always get the same stock answers that really mean nothing.

by Anonymousreply 538June 9, 2019 9:51 PM

Hannity, Barr, McConnell - they’re all running interference to prevent us from maintaining our democracy.

These three must go first.

Dig up the dirt, follow the money trails, reveal the skeletons in order to completely rob them of any credibility.

Jail them for their misdeeds sooner than later.

When they’re gone, release the kraken on ol’ miss Lindsay.

by Anonymousreply 539June 9, 2019 10:30 PM

Corporations have been "people" since the 19th Century, R538. That's a lot of jurisprudence to undo.

by Anonymousreply 540June 9, 2019 10:35 PM

Yeah, R539, I've never heard a good reason for why someone is conservative or why conservatism is a thing in a world that is about nothing but progress, from the first humans to now. What are they trying to conserve? Unworkable traditions? The 1950s? How, exactly, does a society of conservatives define progress or even make any progress? Makes no sense and is the reason why the conservative side has never, ever won anything longterm in the entire history of the world. Human society always progresses. Conservatives always lose.

by Anonymousreply 541June 9, 2019 10:36 PM

r541 They try to conflate being fiscally conservative with being fiscally responsible. Even liberals let them get away with it. Fiscal liberalism can be fiscally responsible (you pay for what you spend ) or not. Same with fiscal conservatism. However, only one side (the fiscally liberal) seem to be consistently fiscally responsible.

Why do so many pundits call Dem weak and similar language when the ire of the entire part of the country that is angry over a criminal getting away with crimes should be directed at the GOP. THIS is why we can gain any traction. All the talking heads and Never Trumpers need to go hard at the GOP for being weak and enablers. We wouldn't be in this mess if it wasn't for them. Blame the GOP. Blame the GOP. Blame the GOP. Weak, corrupt, enablers, compromised. CALL IT OUT!
Barr's law firm has significant Russian clients. Vector and Alfa Bank among them.

Remember this?

"Examining records for the Trump domain, Max’s group discovered D.N.S. lookups from a pair of servers owned by Alfa Bank, one of the largest banks in Russia. Alfa Bank’s computers were looking up the address of the Trump server nearly every day. There were dozens of lookups on some days and far fewer on others, but the total number was notable: between May and September, Alfa Bank looked up the Trump Organization’s domain more than two thousand times. “We were watching this happen in real time—it was like watching an airplane fly by,” Max said. “And we thought, Why the hell is a Russian bank communicating with a server that belongs to the Trump Organization, and at such a rate?” Only one other entity seemed to be reaching out to the Trump Organization’s domain with any frequency: Spectrum Health, of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Spectrum Health is closely linked to the DeVos family; Richard DeVos, Jr., is the chairman of the board, and one of its hospitals is named after his mother. His wife, Betsy DeVos, was appointed Secretary of Education by Donald Trump. Her brother, Erik Prince, is a Trump associate who has attracted the scrutiny of Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Trump’s ties to Russia. Mueller has been looking into Prince’s meeting, following the election, with a Russian official in the Seychelles, at which he reportedly discussed setting up a back channel between Trump and the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. (Prince maintains that the meeting was “incidental.”)"

What is Chris Christie getting for all this? The Kushners kept him from getting a top cabinet post and the VP nomination prior. One would think he would be fed-up with Tump and his clan.

Is Christie hoping to run again in 2024 for Pres? He's accumulated heavy baggage and I don't mean just fat.

by Anonymousreply 552June 10, 2019 1:55 AM

Of course CC will try to run. He is a shameless grifter as well. His style is a lot like Pres Bone Spurs. A lot of gruff, loud, obnoxious that people mistake for being a fighter and tough.

by Anonymousreply 553June 10, 2019 2:09 AM

Chris Christie is a fame whore. Just like Rudy Giuliani. Politicians are worse than actors.

by Anonymousreply 554June 10, 2019 2:25 AM

Yeah, it is amazing to see so many midwesterners and southerners that find the brashness of DJT, Rudy, and Christie, as intriguing and admirable. All three come from the NYC/Jersey metro area. Of course, not all politicians from that area act the way they do.

by Anonymousreply 555June 10, 2019 3:10 AM

I thought the post above said Chris Christie was a fat whore.

Same diifference.

by Anonymousreply 556June 10, 2019 3:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 557June 10, 2019 3:46 AM

Christie totally dissed Buttiegieg this morning, saying “there was no there there” with him, how he’d hit a serious bump like Beto did and would freeze when the green light goes on at the debate. Either the fat pig isn’t paying attention or he’s genuinely scared of Buttiegieg.

by Anonymousreply 559June 10, 2019 3:53 AM

r557 Exactly. They give these scum GOP sycophants legitimacy. CC and Lewondowski and the like. WHY?

And I am sick of the droning on about how the Dems need to learn to talk to middle America instead of the coasts. That seriously is a right wing talking point adopted by the mainstream media. Dems have been winning WI, IA, MN, MI, PA, IL for a loooooong time. They lost by 70,000 spread out over 3 of them and suddenly the Dems have lost the Mid-West. It's over!

Yet, the guy who is president is the most typical, stereotypical brash, loud mouthed coastal elite if there ever was one. He wouldn't piss on a rural farmer is he was on fire. The tape I think they hold over his isn't pee tapes. It is tapes of them making fun of southerners, midwesterners, farmers.......he loathes anyone who doesn't make well into the millions. He feels SUPERIOR to his deplorables. He hates them.

1) Trump manufactures phony crisis 2) Fox reports it as news 3) Trump makes insane threats 4) Trump fails to carry out the threats, claims victory 5) Fox proclaims historical win for America 6) Trump complains media gives him no credit. 7) Rinse, repeat
